ShorePoint Health Port Charlotte and Punta Gorda Have a Broad Impact in the Region

Over the course of a year, the impact of ShorePoint Health Port Charlotte and Punta Gorda adds up as the skilled and compassionate hands of physicians, nurses and other team members deliver quality care around the clock every day. Beyond clinical care, ShorePoint Health is a major employer and regularly invests resources to expand and enhance the services available locally. The overall community benefit each year is significant and totaled $284 million in 2021.
Last year, the hospitals and clinics delivered care during 214,400 patient encounters as the pandemic heightened the need for medical care. The hospitals supported hundreds of COVID patients since March 2020 while sustaining all of its other medical services.
“It is the commitment and compassion of every member of our team that made it possible to deliver quality care to our community as case counts ebbed and flowed during COVID-19,” said Andy Romine, chief executive officer for ShorePoint Health Port Charlotte and Punta Gorda. “Connecting with patients and our community in more meaningful ways is necessary more now than ever to provide excellent healthcare services and to make this region a better community for all.”
Employees and medical staff brought their skills and compassion to support more than 48,300 emergency department visits, 14,800 inpatients and 7,400 surgeries. More than 143,000 patients received outpatient care across ShorePoint Health Port Charlotte and Punta Gorda hospitals and ShorePoint Medical Group.
ShorePoint Health continues to grow and evolve as resources are directed toward increased medical services, facilities and technologies that are important to patients totaling a capital investment of more than $25.7 million.
As ShorePoint Health works to continuously meet patients’ needs, it also gives back to the region. ShorePoint Health Port Charlotte and Punta Gorda provided over $121.5 million in charity and uncompensated care for the community’s most vulnerable. And the $8.6 million paid in property, sales and GRT taxes helps support civic resources and services.
The hospitals’ payroll of more than $116.2 million ripples across the local economy as employees buy goods and services.
